WOMEN PRIZE FOR FICTION UNVEIL THEIR 2020 SHORTLIST


An absolute new year for new wonderful books written by women and a new year prize return. 

Well, The Women prize for Fiction has announced its shortlist for 2020 and 2019 Man Booker joint winner Bernadine Evaristo is also in the list. 

This years prize was judged by Martha Lane Fox as the Chair Judge and includes Scarlett Curtis, Melanie Eusebe, Paula Hawkins. 




From a longlist of 16 books, the judges choose 6 books which are 

Dominicana by Angie Cruz
Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo
A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes
The Mirror and the Light by Hilary Mantel
Hamnet by Maggie O’ Farrell
Weather by Jenny Offill

In a review video of their journey in seeking the shortlist  Martha Lane Fox said, 
“We are all living in challenging, sad and complex times so incredible stories provide hope, a moment of escape and a point of connection now more than ever. Choosing the shortlist was tough – we went slowly and carefully and passions ran high – just as you would want in such a process. But we are all so proud of these books – all readers will find solace if they pick one up.”

However the judges will review the books again to seek the winner which will be announced 9th September  2020.
